Media release: fluxus Congratulates the Tasmanian Government on the Launch of Recycle Rewards

Environment Tasmania congratulates the Tasmanian Government on the successful launch of the Recycle Rewards initiative. Offering a 10-cent refund for every eligible container returned, this program is a significant step toward reducing waste, increasing recycling, and creating a cleaner environment across Tasmania.

We applaud the accessibility of the scheme, with return points statewide and an easy-to-use online portal, ensuring that all Tasmanians can participate. This initiative will reduce litter and support the shift towards a circular economy.

We encourage the government to expand the scope of Recycle Rewards to include other materials like plastic bottles and glass containers. This broader approach would enhance Tasmania’s recycling efforts and create additional economic opportunities in the recycling sector.

Public education will also be key to the program’s success. We urge the government to launch an awareness campaign to ensure all Tasmanians understand how the scheme works and why it matters for the environment.

The fluxus Campaign is committed to advocating for climate safe waste management solutions, and we look forward to seeing the positive impact of Recycle Rewards in the years ahead. We hope this initiative will lead to further action on waste reduction in Tasmania and further waste industry opportunities for innovation of recycling on our own doorstep.
