Environment Tasmania was established in 2004 as the state's Conservation Council and has gone on to spearhead several important environmental projects after the formation of the Tasmanian Forestry Agreement.
Over the years, we have hosted meetings with member groups from across Tasmania, representing a diverse range of environmental issues, including forestry, waterways, National Park boundaries, skylines and urban development, regional ecosystems, climate change, and threatened species. These meetings have provided a forum for groups to share local knowledge, discuss strategic issues, and identify shared priorities.
Environment Tasmania has also successfully worked in coalitions to achieve both the Tasmanian Forestry Agreement in 2012 and the ban on Super Trawlers in Tasmanian waters in 2017. We have a proud history of campaigning on salmon and we are now focused on protecting the endangered Maugean skate. Over recent years, our Marine Campaign has galvanised community support for healthy oceans - with the Tasmanian Premier committing to a new Marine Environment Act in 2025.
