Support FloatMo

Australian fishing icon Steve “Starlo” Starling says Tassal’s Okehampton Bay salmon farming proposal is a “disaster waiting to happen” and now AFL star Nick Reiwoldt has joined the campaign too!

On Sunday 18 June the local Tassie community are holding a huge, peaceful flotilla and rally on Hobart’s waterfront. It's called #FloatMo and it'll send a clear message to our Premier that Tassal’s plan to spread industrial salmon farming up our pristine East Coast must be stopped. Their industrial fish farm would be bad for our precious marine environment, bad for fishing, bad for our tourism brand and terrible for endangered whales.

If you can make it please RSVP here. Otherwise show your support now by sending a message of support to Nick and Starlo.

Thanyou for help in making this day happen, most importantly thankyou for standing up for the voiceless OUR OCEANS our estuaries ( breeding grounds for both salt and freshwater fish crustaceans etc..No longer do I/family purchase farmed fish/prawns etc due to the adverse affects it has on our native WILD fish stocks but most importantly the state of our ocean water and river systems..

It is appalling how conservation is always on the very bottom of corporate list of priorities, and money-making right at the top. It is time for the government to get serious about enforcing conservation laws.

I love Tasmanian see waters. I scuba dive . Boat and swim . Im devestated by the changes caused by fish farming. The channel is a good exsample of the damage they cause. There is a major change in this area. The whole area is poluted. The bottom around the fish farms is just mud and salmon shit. Its so sad.

    Thanks Nick,

To protect the quality of Tassie waters and fish is essential for All Australians….Tassal is not doing the right thing. I endorse the action being taken by Nick and others. At present we will not buy any products sold under the Tassal brand! The Tassie Govt needs to act and not turn a blind eye to what is going on by Tassal.

We have to protect Tasmania from the ravages and damaged we have inflicted on the mainland of Australia , let’s make Tasmania the proof that we as a generation and a whole nation Have learnt from our mistakes , and I do mean mistakes , many of the practices that were followed to feed this nation were done just to do that , but we have since learnt that many of these practices are not the best for the environment ,and we have made many refinements and improvements , and these must continue to be made , and if we have to stop Salmon farming while the studies into what is the best practise for the industry is found , try to find someway to do so , can we please have the common sense to do before more research and less money making before another pocket of Australia is irreparably damaged ?? I truly hope so
