At Environment Tasmania, we've built a lasting relationship with some of the state's recreational fishing groups. It just makes sense - people who like to fish love being outdoors on the water, and they really care that we have enough fish stock for the future, so it makes sense that they want to secure our marine resources.
If you check out our work to Stop the Super Trawler, you'll see just what a big role recreational fishers played in stopping the monster trawler Margiris. They're still working with us to try to stop the factory trawler Geelong Star - which is currently sucking up bait fish off the east coast of Australia and killing protected dolphins, seals and whale sharks in its giant net.
