Timberlands has been assessing and reforesting the Scamander plantation with site suitable species since 2005. Approximately 920 ha of steep slopes and other sites not deemed suitable for pine plantation have been burnt and over sown or hand planted with local Eucalyptus species where burning is inappropriate. These seeded Eucalyptus sites are part of 3 500 ha of similar sites throughout the Timberlands Pacific managed Taswood Estate that are re-established with native species rather than Pinus radiata. Timberlands Pacific is working with Environment Tasmania and the NEBN to continue restoring some of these areas. Environment Tasmania also gratefully acknowledges the support of the following organisations:

  • Greening Australia
  • New Forests
  • The Wilderness Society
  • Conservation Volunteers Australia
  • Forestry Tasmania
  • NRM North
  • Break O Day Council
