Environment Tasmania Inc. (ET), Australia's youngest conservation council, was publicly launched in December 2006, and after operating as a volunteer organisation for its first twelve months has found new momentum and energy. ET is a peak body representing more than 25 Tasmanian environment groups, with collective representation of over 6000 Tasmanians.

Environment Tasmania is a not-for-profit conservation council that is structured to ensure its clear independence and apolitical nature, its fair decision-making processes, its accountability to its member conservation groups, and its adherence to the goals of the protection, conservation and rehabilitation of Tasmania's natural environment.

ET and its member groups work on a range of conservation and environment issues in Tasmania, including forest conservation, pollution, climate change, water issues, marine conservation, Parks & reserve management, amongst many others. Head to campaigns for more information.

In this exciting new chapter of Tasmania's future ET is well positioned to  play an important role for politicians and policy-makers, environment groups, industry and the community at large as a crucial conduit for environment and conservation issues in Tasmania.

ET has recently moved into a new office space within the Salamanca precinct, Hobart’s cultural and historic hub. Many exciting projects are currently underway.  These include:

·        a series of public forums throughout the State focussing on climate change issues;

·        a marine reserve campaign focussed on building community and government awareness;

·        the process of developing an up-to-date Forest Policy Document, involving a wide range of stakeholders;

·        an ‘Eco-toxicology Research Trust Fund’ that will provide funding for independent scientific research into water quality, biodiversity, and pollution.

Our member groups come from right across Tasmania and campaign on wide range of local, regional and state-wide environmental issues. ET’s current member groups include:
