Things are on the move in regards to the Tasmanian and Federal Governments approach to incorporating forest protection into their climate policies. The federal government are in the final stages of developing a Carbon Farming Initiative and The Tasmanian Government are undertaking a Forest Carbon Study.

Environment Tasmania is starting to engage in these policy discussions due to our role in the Tasmanian Forest Negotiations and we want to hear your thoughts.

The Tasmanian Governments summary of the study is:

'The $250,000 Forest Carbon Study will model the emissions and sequestration value of the State’s current forest estate, including not only its managed forests but also its conserved forest areas.'

Read our comments here.

To say the least some major improvements are needed to the study's
project scope!

Environment Tasmania has told the Government that we would like to be involved in further consultation relating to further work on the
Project Scope for the Study and during the course of the study.

If you would like to help track the consultation process or if you would like to contribute to the Environment Tasmania's future submission contact us - members@et.org.au or 6224 6319.
